DEFINITION
A restricted area is any part of the venue access to which is limited to authorised personnel — race control, judges' tower, hot pit, parc fermé and the inside of the live track.
Restricted-area boundaries are marked with red tape, fencing or barriers. Unauthorised entry results in immediate ejection from the event and, for competitors, a strike or disqualification.
HISTORY & ORIGIN
Restricted-area access protocols are standard FIA Appendix H safety practice.
TECHNIQUE BREAKDOWN
There is no driving technique. The term defines an access protocol enforced by marshals.
PRO TIPS & COMMON MISTAKES
• Always wear your event credential visibly. Marshals will stop you if they can't see it.
• Common mistake: walking the inside of the track during a session for a photo. It's an automatic ejection.
Two spectators were ejected after walking into the restricted area between sessions.
